Types Of Skiing Events
Can someone help me with this gr.7 science question?
Which type of heat transfer does each situation below model?
a) At a sport event the spectators do “the wave.” Starting at one end of the stadium, they stand up and sit down as the next person stands. A ripple of motion spreads accross the crowd.
b) Several doiminoes are standing close together on edge. You give the end domino a small push, increasing it’s kinetic energy. It falls onto the next, which falls onto it’s neighbour, and so on. Soon all the dominoes have fallen.
c) On a ski hill, people line up at the bottom of the hill, take teh lift to the top, then ski down again to join the crowd waiting for the lift.
Could someone please help me with this, I always have to miss science class to go to music, I don’t choose to I have to. Please help.
I think it has something to do with conduction and insulation or something…
If your choices are conduction, convection, and radiation:
a) sounds like radiation (electromagnetic waves conducting infrared radiation–heat)
b) would be conduction: particles transmitting heat by colliding into one another
c) would be convection: fluid moving in a circular pattern, conducting heat (like boiling water in a pan, or warm air rising in a room, then cooling and falling)
