Skiing What Age

What age will be ok to take my baby on a ski trip to learn how to ski?

9 mos. preg now, and am jonesing to go snow skiing! help!

Many resorts have creches which look after kids from as young as 3 months. All day might be a bit too long but you will be able to get out for a morning. Or you and your partner can tag team. Or you can take a grandparent along. Another thought is to get a condo with another family, and swap child minding duties. I have done all of these.

I don’t think that there is much point in proper ski lessons younger than about 3. It is very difficult for anyone younger to absorb information, and young kids do not have the leg strength. They also get tired quickly (not to mention the dreaded toilet training issue – even if they are normally fine there is a lot of stuff to take off, and it is a long way between bathrooms). There is no reason why you can’t get little skis and use them for snow play when they are younger.

The important thing, whatever the age, is that the kids have fun. That may mean a couple of extra years of creche. If you force them they may never like it, which will mean that your opportunities are much reduced.
