Jamaica lies south of Cuba in the western half of the Caribbean. Jamaica is the perfect place for a wedding, vacation or a honeymoon in Jamaica. It was for centuries under the British rule and has maintained close ties with the United Kingdom since independence in 1962. Jamaica is one of the most distinctive of Caribbean islands, mainly as birthplace of Rastafarianism, which bathes the culture, like music's most famous natives of the island, the son of Bob Marley.
Jamaica is proud to be a perfect wedding and honeymoon destination. Many resorts specialize in this market. Some, like SuperClubs and Sandals (both known for their all-inclusive, couples only resorts) even offer free wedding packages. The all-inclusive concept was born in Jamaica and in no other destination has so successfully matured and marketed the concept.
There are many all inclusive resorts, which are aimed at high standards. However, my favorite romantic retreats are on the other end the spectrum, small boutique hotels offering a combination of ultra-chic and intimate atmosphere that is synonymous with romance. Once again, highlights Jamaica, island with local entrepreneur Chris Blackwell, the Outpost group having conceived some of the most welcoming and wonderful hotels worldwide. They draw notables from Naomi Campbell to Pierce Brosnan, but fortunately most are surprisingly affordable.
Weather wise, there are only two seasons: rainy (May to November) and dry (December-April). The Best time to visit is during the dry season when rainfall is minimal and most of the island is bathed by the sun.
In summer, rainfall afternoon prolonged or heavy downpours are typical of the island. Several days or even weeks of continuous rain are also possible in summer, however, especially in the northeast, although this varies year to year. Summer and fall are also hurricane season, although the possibility of a hurricane actually striking the island is relatively low.
Although bordered by coastal plains and fine sandy beaches, Jamaica is predominantly mountainous. In the east, the Blue Mountains (known for the world-famous coffee grown here) an increase to 7,402 feet. Despite its relatively small size, the island has several different climates: the mountainous northwest, centered on the old banana shipping port of Port Antonio, receives abundant rainfall and is exceedingly abundant, while the relatively flat southern coast central focus in Treasure Beach, lies in the rain shadow of bushes and the predominant vegetation is cactus and thorns.
Jamaica is well developed in terms of activities. Visitors can choose from jet skiing, scuba diving boat trips and sunset to mountain biking, crocodile safaris, and horseback riding.
Flight service to Jamaica which is well served by both scheduled and charter service varies by season, but no service daily from across Canada and the U.S. throughout the year. The best bargain airfares are out of season, in summer.
