Having never visited Poland for a holiday or even heard much of the language spoken I decided to take a job in southern Poland again in 2006. The decision left me with the same questions that people often have when deciding to visit a new country for work or a holiday, what is? The job was as a snowboard instructor in a town called Zakopane. I had worked in the conventional resorts before, but decided a change of scenery and something will bea new exciting adventure. In all honesty I was imagining small wooden huts, run by buildings and Peoples concluded mooching hot streets. through the cold and snow that painted the picture ofa blame Eastern Europe in the movies. I literally had no idea what to expect from Zakopane. Timea I spent a lot of searching the Internet and could not really find too much detailed information about the city. A Fewa visitors with comments ona travel websites spoke cheese, a mulled wine and traditional restaurants that do not really help paint a picture of the city, let me know that I would not hunger.

Flying most of the UK population of the land at the airport in Krakow and take the two-hour trip to Zakopane. About one hour road journey as ifa curves and the Sierra Tatra the nothing appears. It is the first view of the mountains that leaves you desperate to get in Zakopane. Although the mountains are so close now is an hour of driving before reaching the bottom of the mountains and the town of Zakopane. Not much more to do in the unit of Krakow, just acres of farmland and some small towns. As you come to the edge of Zakopane started to realize how big the village, passing billboards advertising shops, restaurants and hotels in town, drive past Harenda ski area in his right hand, which probably will give a shock if you have come to ski, it is one of the steeper slopes in the city and then toward the center of town. If you are lucky enough to arrive in Zakopane in a snowy winters evening then you will be surrounded by beautiful festive lights hanging from the lampposts and the view of the Tatra Mountains capped snow shines in moonlight. Even if you do see note Zakopane this way for the first time that this will continue printing on the head once I see it as it is difficult forget. snowy peaks and the streets covered with snow are so impressive in summer, snow is replaced with lush green fields and trees in the sunlight.

The center of Zakopane is a straight ofa and long pedestrian street so you can wander freely shops and bars. Krupowki as it is called the center is a fun place to visit with street entertainers, more food and drink on offer shows that you coulda possibly in a week and a combination of newly built stores ina wooden cabins, modern shopping malls and traditional markets. In the summer you'd find fun fairs in the park land that runs parallel to Krupowki, to be replaced witha ice rinks in the winter. From the center of the city you can see the ski runs and ski slopes are covered with skiers and hikers in the light of the season and forest below.

In terms of small wooden huts and run down buildings that I had imagined, and there around town and probably will in the years come. However, there are hundreds of beautifully made wooden area construction and more modern buildings offer options fantastic accommodation in the litter city over the past three years I've been returning to Zakopane Havea there have been constant improvements of the city and the facilities available.
