Michigan Skiing Locations
do i have a future?
Ok, everyone. I live in southeastern michigan, and as you can imagine, i ski at a little shabby hill called mt. brighton. I am currently the best in their race league. Because of my location, I have no way to get noticed , or to get scouted into higher leagues. I really need help trying to earn spots in the state or even regional teams. I just have no clue how I can do it. Anyone would tell you, “he’s the fastest; he has potential”. My coach, friends, teammates, paarents, etc, tell me that all the time. It is my lifelong passion and ambition to ski, and yes, i go to breckenridge for 3 weeks a year. Please. It has always been my dream, to be scouted out and comete at a national, even regional level. Thank you so much.
First of all – if you haven’t already, join USSA (http://www.ussa.org) This is the national sanctioning body for ski racing. When you join, start racing in USSA sanctioned races and developing a national ranking points profile if you are 13 or older.
Now you didn’t specify your age, but if you are 20 or over you will race in Masters class. If you are between 13 and 19 you will still be in junior racing. In that case you need to go to Junior Olympic (JO) qualifiers and try to make it to JO’s. Do well in the JO’s and you will get noticed. If you are 15 or older, you can start developing an international ranking profile with FIS but will have to get sufficient national rankings first.
Michigan is no problem if you are willing and able to travel to chase points and go to qualifying races.
Basically USSA’s website can tell you everything you need to know.
