How To Water Ski Beginner

How good do you have to be to join a college water ski team?

So I’ve been water skiing for maybe 3-4 years now? Nothing serious, all just for fun. I’ve only began slalom skiing like 2 years ago though. I can also do some wake boarding and some tricks but mainly I’m a skier. Anyway I’m going to college for the Spring semester and want to join the water ski club. The college has a pretty good team and they go to competitions and stuff. They say beginners can join but I’d feel weird showing up to a meeting not knowing anyone and going out skiing with them. Plus everyone is probably going to be a lot older than me (I’m 17). How do I go about joining the club without feeling stupid? Should I even join since I’m not good enough to compete?

Welcome to college, this is what it is all about.

As a friend once told me: “if it is something you want, you need to be assertive.”

Go to a meeting, introduce yourself and be honest about your skills. Nobody will know much until you are out on the water and can see what skill level you possess.

If their team isn’t right for you, bet they will help you find one.

Club sports are notoriously fun and friendly.

Best of luck
