The best ski resort to work in would have to be Whistler-Blackcomb, BC. Its only an hour drive from Vancouver, and you could easily live in the city. The reason why Im telling you about Whistler is because the city is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics and theyre hiring like crazy! They need tons of new staff at hotels, chalets, and resorts in the city. The minimum wage in BC is $8 an hour, but they would pay more than $25 in a resort in Whistler. Also Vancouver- Whistler is one of the closest North American cities to Australia, and the plane flight would be cheaper. If youre worried about the cold, Vancouver is the warmest Canadian city and it almost never snows here, but since Whistler is up in the mountains, you’re only an hour away from snow. Plus, there are tons of Aussie’s that work at the shops and chalets there, I guess its because theyre sick of the heat and like the snow. Its the opposite for me
but temperature in vancity never falls below 30F and its usually around 40-50F during winter… which is much warmer than NYC, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, and other North American cities. If you dont want to live in Whistler and dont want to do the hour commute to Whistler from Vancouver, there are three mountains on the North Side of Vancouver, each having its own chalet and resort. Theres Grouse Mountain, Cypress Mountain, and Seymour Mountain, and all three are only 20 minutes from Downtown Vancouver. Cypress mountain is also hosting some events for the olympics so wages would probably be higher there. You can work during summer or winter, but I would recommend working winter season as you get closer to the olympics. It will be busier and wages will be higher. Hope that helps.
